Useful Travel Gadgets for any Tech Savvy

For any tech-whizz travelling is an opportunity to explore not only new places, but also the wonders of multiple fun gadgets that can make your holiday unforgettable.

And if you are not a technology savvy, this does not mean you can’t enjoy some of the greatest travel gadgets during your adventurous trips or your urban long walks.

It’s probably impossible to list all of the technological curiosities that modern life has brought to us, but we recommend the must-have ones which can add some more value to any type of holiday.

Camera

Needless to say, but bring a camera! Or better, bring a toughened camera like a Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX10 which is a little point and shoot compact perfect for adventurous photographers and also for the clumsy ones.

The TX10 can be exposed to non-camera friendly environments being dustproof, waterproof to 5m, freezeproof to minus 10°C and can withstand drops of around 1.5m.

According to specialists, the camera takes quality pictures and has excellent movie recording abilities, making it a great travel snapper.

Tablet

If you don’t want to carry your laptop with you when you’re out and about, a travel tablet can be the best solution for anything you want in terms of multimedia.

There’s a vast range of tablets on the market nowadays – Acer Iconia, Asus Slider, Asus Transformer, Blackberry PlayBook, iPad, Lenovo Thinkpad, Motorola Xoom, Samsung Galaxy, Sony tablet S and P, just to name a few – so you can pick one and play on it during the long flying hours, on train or while lying on a sunny beach.

And a travel application installed on it could come in handy when you run out of ideas of where to eat, party or what to visit further.

Phone

Some people would rather leave their cell phones at home during holidays in order to get away from it all – work, friends, family, but the right phone can become your best companion if it has what it takes.

Smartphones for travelling

Travellers and cell phones applications go hand in hand. Therefore, a concierge application like the one offered by Yabbedoo allows your smartphone to find hotel rooms, build your own travel guides or search a place by your interests.

It’s even better when you have a GPS built in that can take you anywhere you wish without getting too lost.

Walkman

However, if you can resist being away from some kind of online action for more than one day, but you somehow miss listening to your music while hiking, biking or camping we can recommend you the Sony Walkman W series, which is water resistant and perfect for sports uses.

With an ergonomic design, the walkman is extremely light (43gm) and foldable, being suitable for active travellers who don’t want to worry about wires.

E-book Readers

For those who get bored easily on their trips and want to catch up with their reading, an e-book reader is a relaxing, light gadget.

If you are an avid reader, you don’t need to bring all of your books on the trip, instead just upload them on your Kindle or on any other e-book reader. In this way you are killing time gaining some additional knowledge.

Power Pack

When you are on the go and a tech-head, you kind of need a portable power pack which can charge all manner of mobile phones, MP3players, digital cameras and other juicy technology you brought on the trip.

The Pebble is a portable pocket sized battery pack that can help you in extreme emergencies. It can be simply charged from an USB port on your computer.

Solar Backpack

But the best solution to charge all your gadgets without being necessary to find a power source is the OffGrid Solar Backpack, which is versatile bag with two solar panels.

Basically, you can throw all your handhelds, tablets or cameras inside the backpack, keep it in the daylight and the sun will power up each of them.

The solar pocket is removable and can be attached to other bags or anything else as it charges. This backpack can be your most efficient power savior while travelling.

Power Adapter

Also in terms of power, we think it’s always useful to have an international adapter and converter. This gadget provides plug adaptation for over 150 countries and fits a variety of international sockets, having also a built-in USB port.

This is money well spent if you think of all the adapters you purchase when travelling to different countries around the world, each with its special power requirements.

Swiss Knife

Although this last recommendation is not really part of the wonderful electronics described above, its utility and adaptability makes it a true must for any traveller.

The 85 Swiss Army Knife by Wenger, a symbol of manhood, can become extremely useful in the most unexpected circumstances. But keep in mind not to take that with you on the plane, most probably the security will confiscate it. And you don’t want to lose such an extraordinary tool.

  1. Great post! Handy tips. Would love to know your favourite travel apps!

I can certainly speak to the Sony camera – all my water pictures, and some of the action shots on my travel blog (www.traveldestinationbucketlist.com) are taken with that camera. Works great in both fresh and salt water. I throw it around in my kayak, back pocket of my cycling jersey and it still keeps ticking! Only thing – it doesn’t float! Good to know when tossing in the water!
